The Artists

The Brown Family is a Los Angeles based Afro hip-hop group with roots in Nigeria, West Africa. Originally formed in 2008, its members have been involved in music under varying capacities prior to this, bringing years of experience with writing, production, arrangement and engineering to the table. The group is made up of members Somto Madu “Famos Fame”, Samuel Dosumu “Sammy D”, JohnPaul Arabome “Pepp”.

What makes The Brown Family unique, as a group is the individualism of its members as can be seen in their debut album, which is scheduled for a summer 2011 release worldwide under the Los Angeles Based Indie label Duke Brown Music Group. In this very rich and diverse project, the group members individually take on solo tracks, displaying the core of their artistry with the support, and without the influence of the other members.

Having successfully debut their first single “Pop Champagne” with a world class video on MTV Base, Channel O, Nigezie, Sound City and other prominent networks across Africa and Europe, the group is looking to expand on their success with a new single called “Whyne Am” which should have a broader audience because of its smooth laid back vibe. “Whyne Am” reminds one of that Afro-Caribbean dance music that just want to make you get off your seat and groove to the rhythms of the traditional conga drums, and smooth natured synthesized underlay, which all comes together with the sweet tingly sounds of the bell. Already enjoying airplay in The Bahamas and Trinidad, the single is quickly spreading across the Caribbean and very soon Africa as the catchy hook is bound to leave an impression in the hearts of their fans, and soon to be fans.

The group has been recording their debut album for over a year now while building a buzz and momentum for a worldwide release this summer. Some critics have already dubbed the album a “classic” in its genre because of its uniqueness and altogether cohesion of what may seem like varying musical influences from across the world. This is not surprising however, as the group members have been exposed to the creative process of world music from Eastern European music to Caribbean, and even Country and Classical. It is this diverse musical background and ear that translates into the sounds of the group’s debut album that is bound to be a game changer in the Afro hip-hop industry.

While the group continues to perform at various gigs locally in Los Angeles and across the United States, they have also performed in Europe and are looking forward to their first performance in Africa, the land where it all began.
